Catachresis, generally, consists in assigning a sign already assigned to a first idea to a new idea, that had either no sign corresponding to it, or no more left in that particular language. It corresponds, consequently, to the use of a forced and necessary change in meaning( Trope), to every word for each meaning is purely extensive, being a literal meaning but coming from a second origin, being the intermediary between primitive literal meaning and figurative meaning. But in its nature it comes closer to the former than to the latter, although it could have been itself figured in the principle.
